SHRINX lounge chair – SHRINX 4903 for +Halle & Boris Berlin Design
Two years ago, we presented our vision at Interzum in Cologne: FOAMLESS soft seating – sustainable upholstery solutions without foam, based on our patented SHRINX technology.
Now this idea is really gaining momentum: the SHRINX lounge chair by Boris Berlin Design for +Halle pushes the boundaries of what is possible:
a lightweight club chair that offers an alternative to the use of foam in soft seating furniture.
SHRINX is both a protest and a foray into a new category of the future of upholstered furniture.
‘We have already seen SHRINX fabric as a sustainable alternative to foam in the office chair category, where you normally stretch a small back and seat area,’ said Martin Halle, CEO of +Halle. ‘However, transferring this technology to something as large as an armchair is a game changer.
Instead of being stretched around the frame, the fabric of the SHRINX armchair is draped around it and then shrunk.
SHRINX challenges conventional upholstered furniture by completely eliminating PU foam. Its semi-transparent fabric reveals a foam-free construction and embodies a forward-thinking approach to sustainable furniture design.
Designer Boris Berlin based the shape of the seat on a club chair, creating lightness and transparency that playfully contrast with the usual heaviness of armchairs.
The design makes the chair easy to move and transport, says B.Berlin, and its transparency makes it a less bulky choice for seating in public interiors.
